Funding available for your summer programmes

If you are considering running a Holiday Bible Club or Youth Programme this summer then the Education Authority have a special Summer Programme Fund available. Depending on the size and duration of the programme up to £10,000 could be awarded.

This fund will help pay for:

  • Transport costs for trips
  • Food and refreshments
  • Materials for crafts and other activities
  • Entrance fees for trips
  • Activity provider costs for trips or at your venue
  • Printing costs for programme materials
  • Equipment costs such as AV or games equipment

What you need to be providing:

  • A programme that caters for at least 20 children and/or young people aged 4–25 years
  • It must run for at least 3 consecutive days and last for at least 5 hours

Within the overall programme there should be an element of:

  • Physical activity (for an hour in total daily)
  • Healthy meals and snacks
  • Creative pursuits such as music or arts and crafts
  • A celebration event at the end that involves others in the community
Example 1

You run a Holiday Bible Club for a week from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. The programme includes arts and crafts, songs and actions, physical games outside and time for lunch and breaks.  On 1 or 2 of the days you take a bus trip to a fun park. The children and parents are invited to a celebration of the week at church the following Sunday. Most of the costs incurred for this would be eligible for funding.

Example 2

You run a 3–day ‘Summer getaway’ programme for young people. Each of the days involves a trip away for the day to an activity (such as surf school, high ropes, coasteering, paintball etc) and one (or all) of the days also involves returning to the church for worship/discussion and a few other creative activities. You provide a healthy lunch and/or tea. Your last day has an evening back in the church for worship and fellowship with others (parents and/or other youth people/children) and an element of celebration of the programme. Most of the costs incurred for this would be eligible for funding.
