Seven new Diocesan Bible Teachers/Catechists are commissioned

Bishop David has commissioned the second group of Diocesan Bible Teachers/Catechists to have successfully completed our 15-week training course.

Congratulations to the seven from across the diocese who will go on to serve in their local parishes. They are: John Fretwell (Mount Merrion), David Hughes (Holywood), Markus Marshall (Tullylish), Peter McCartney (LAMP), Daniel McDonald (Willowfield), Sam McMahon (West Winds) and Rachel Reid (Moira).

The commissioning service took place in Mount Merrion Parish Church on Thursday 30 April and was led by Revd Lucy Burden. Dean Geoff Wilson gave the address.

This new intake joins the eleven who completed the inaugural course and were commissioned a year ago.

Each has been commissioned to teach and instruct (catechise) the Bible and the key doctrines of Christianity at Sunday services, mid-week gatherings, home groups and other ministries in their parishes. Under the authority of the bishop and the supervision of the minister their role will be to act primarily as a teaching support.
