Meet Diocesan Bible Teacher/Catechist, Markus Marshall
Markus Marshall is one of seven Diocesan Bible Teachers/Catechists commissioned at a service in Mount Merrion Parish Church on Thursday 30 April 2026. He is a parishioner of All Saints' Tullylish.
I came to faith as a child in a Church of England church in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and I’m very grateful for the Christian foundation that gave me. During my twenties I had the privilege of living in a number of different countries, which allowed me to experience church life across different cultures and backgrounds. Looking back, I can see how much those experiences helped shape and deepen my faith and appreciation for the wider Church.
A huge part of God’s blessing in my life has been meeting my wonderful wife, Chloe. We moved to Northern Ireland together, got married, and now have an incredible two-and-a-half-year-old daughter with another child on the way. Three years ago, we began attending All Saints’ Tullylish, my wife’s childhood church, and it has truly become home for us as a family. Over that time, the Lord has graciously opened doors for me to serve in different ways, including on the vestry, managing the church website and social media, leading prayers, and helping with children’s talks. Through these opportunities and reflecting on my past church experiences, I began to explore how God may be calling me to serve further within the church.
The Diocesan Bible Teacher/Catechist course first came onto my radar while attending Bishop’s Bible Week with our minister, Robert. After hearing about the course, we had a conversation with Andrew Brannigan, and I later met him for coffee to ask questions and learn more. Following prayer and the support of those around me, I applied, interviewed, and was accepted onto the course.
The course itself has been a fantastic experience. I particularly enjoyed the weekly reading and study, and the teaching sessions were consistently engaging and encouraging. One of the greatest blessings was the group of people I journeyed alongside throughout the course. We built genuine friendships, had thoughtful discussions, and it was a privilege to hear each person’s story and to see the different gifts God has given them, especially during the preaching elements of the course.
I will continue serving at All Saints’ Tullylish, and I’m very thankful for the opportunity to preach and support the church as part of the preaching team. I do not know exactly where God will lead me and my young family in the years ahead, but I am open to His leading and want to remain faithful in serving my family and my local church for this next season.
Might this be your calling too? The course will run again in autumn 2025. Find out more in our Training Section HERE.
