Peter reflects on his deacon year
I am married to Diane, and we have three beautiful daughters. I come from County Fermanagh where we currently live and was brought up in my local parish church. Baptised and confirmed, unfortunately I chose not to attend church regularly and had no relationship with Jesus or awareness of God in my life. However, after a series of challenging life events, I attended an Alpha Course run by Ardess Parish Church, where I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit and began my journey and relationship with Jesus. This subsequently led me to explore the possibility of ordained ministry, which I have been working towards over the past six years.
I served my internship as a deacon in the parishes of Castle Archdale and Derryvullen North, in the diocese of Clogher and I would like to thank the rector, the Ven Paul Thompson, and parishioners for their warm welcome and invaluable support throughout this busy year.
The year brought many challenges, particularly trying to balance family life, employment, study, pastoral duties and church activities. However, under the experienced and wise guidance of Archdeacon Paul, I was provided with excellent and timely opportunities to gain insights into the administration and pastoral workings of rural church ministry. His mentorship has been an immense blessing on my overall journey towards being ordained presbyter.
My family and I are very excited about the prospect of joining you all in LAMP and the wider diocese of Down and Dromore. We have watched from afar what God has done in and through you over the years and are humbled that He has called my family and I to be part of growing His Kingdom in this part of the island of Ireland.
