St Clement’s and The Gathering to come together as one church family
The diocese is delighted to announce that St Clement’s, Templemore Avenue, and The Gathering church plant are to come together as one church family.
The Revd Colin Birnie (OLM), who led St Clement’s for almost seven years, stepped down in August and with The Gathering also at a crossroads, the time was right to think strategically about the future of both congregations.
Under the new arrangement they will share leadership, governance, finances and ministry, while continuing to offer two complementary expressions of Sunday worship: one traditional and one contemporary.
The Revd Ross Munro (pictured), who has led The Gathering since its inception, will be welcomed as the leader of St Clement’s on Thursday 29 October. The rector of Willowfield, the Revd Clive Atkinson, will continue to provide oversight as curate-in-charge.
Complementary strengths, shared vision
As they come together, the two congregations will celebrate and share their distinct but complementary strengths.
St Clement’s brings a long-established Christian presence, a faithful congregation, a rich heritage and a welcoming, well-appointed building with significant capacity for future ministry.
The Gathering brings fresh energy, younger people and families, a growing range of ministries, contemporary worship and a heartfelt commitment to discipleship and mission.
Together, they share a vision for one growing Church of Ireland family, rooted in Scripture and prayer, warmly welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds, and worshipping in both contemporary and traditional forms.
We look ahead with excitement as the new St Clement's church family seeks to share the good news of Christ with unchurched people of all ages, make disciples of Jesus, nurture children and young people, and serve the local community.
