An update from Chile

As the team come towards the end of their visit to the Diocese of Santiago, our Partnership Link Coordinator, Revd Mark Lennox writes:

Apologies that it has been a few days since the last update. One of the reasons is that sickness hit the group. Bishop David was the first to take unwell with flu-like symptoms, followed by Eunice, George, Tracey and me.   am not sure what it was we had, but I am so thankful that we appear to be over the worst of it, and also that Hilary and Millie managed to escape.

Despite the illness, a slightly scaled back programme continued. On Wednesday Morning Bishop David (accompanied by Millie) travelled to La Providencia to speak to a group of clergy at a breakfast. On Wednesday evening Hilary and Millie spoke at a Ladies Evening in La Trindad church.  Thursday's planned events were cancelled.

On Friday Mille, George and Eunice began their journey home, and we have heard that they made it back safely to Northern Ireland.

On Saturday morning we attended a coffee morning for clergy and their wives. Bishop David shared a few thoughts on staying on fire for the Lord in pastoral ministry with the group. This was followed by a Q&A.

Sunday was a busy day for the team with a visit to La Providencia church (above) in the morning, and then in the evening to La Trinidad (where I preached two weeks ago). Bishop David preached at both these services.

Today (Monday) I have been asked to preach at a Communion Service in CEP (Theological College) and on Tuesday morning Tracey and I will visit the Diocesan Office.

On Wednesday we pack up and begin the long journey home .

We really do appreciate all your prayerful support and would ask that you continue to pray for:

  • The health of us who are still here - Bishop David and Hilary, Tracey and myself

  • Give thanks for the opportunities that we have had to share the gospel (even with taxi drivers).

  • For the work on Tuesday in the office.

  • Our preparations for returning home.
