Archdeacon Mark completes his fundraising challenge
Huge congratulations to Archdeacon Mark Harvey, who has completed an almost 130-mile fundraising walk through every area deanery in Down and Dromore.
Mark, rector of Shankill Parish, Lurgan, completed the circular ‘Shankill2Shankill’ route over nine days. The challenge was to raise funds for the Reimagining Shankill Building Project, the Motor Neurone Disease Association Northern Ireland, and Down and Dromore’s link Diocese of Multan in Pakistan.
The miles were long, but Mark did not walk alone. Along the way he was joined by supporters and received a warm welcome and generous hospitality at churches throughout the diocese.
After worshipping with the congregation of Hillsborough Parish on Sunday morning, 30 August, Mark set off for home, arriving at around 4.00 pm to cheers and applause at The Jethro Centre in Lurgan (see above).
Reflecting on the walk, Mark said: “This year’s Shankill2Shankill fundraising walk was a slightly longer challenge than last year - almost 130 miles. It was fantastic to walk through each of our area deaneries, passing 30 churches along the way, praying for the parishes as I went, and seeing things in the beautiful scenery of our diocese that I perhaps miss while driving.
“I’m thankful and humbled by the support for our own parish church restoration project, for the Motor Neurone Disease Association NI, and for our partner diocese of Multan in the Church of Pakistan.”
At the time of writing, 'Shankill2Shankill has raised almost £13,000, but there is still time to give through the Crowdfunder platform.
