Diocesan Evangelist Gill Peek shares her story
Gill Peek has been commissioned as a Diocesan Evangelist for Movilla Abbey Church, Newtownards.
She was commissioned in Knocknagoney Parish Church on Thursday 11 June 2026 along with four others: Tom Field (Willowfield), Cyril Morrison (Knocknagoney), Keith Porter (Braniel Community Church) and Andy Williamson (Shankill).
Gill shares her story below...
"I became a Christian at the age of 28, and my faith has been an important part of my life ever since.
"I came to apply for the Diocesan Evangelist course after my husband, Alan, mentioned it to me. He knew how much I loved to share Jesus with others and saw it as a real opportunity for me to grow in that calling. When he told me about it, it felt like a light switch had been turned on in my mind, and I immediately knew this was what God was calling me to do.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the course. A real highlight was meeting and getting to know others on the course and sharing the journey with like-minded people who also had a passion for evangelism. The assignments were particularly challenging, as it had been a number of years since my school days! I was not used to doing assignments, but it helped me grow in confidence and deepen how I understand and communicate my faith.
"Working full-time with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service as an Ambulance Care Attendant while doing the course required discipline and careful use of my time, but it was an extremely worthwhile experience.
"As a Diocesan Evangelist, I will be serving in, Movilla Abbey, my home church. I am excited to encourage others in their faith and to reach beyond the walls of the church to those who do not yet know Jesus. I feel called to speak about Jesus in every part of my life and to live out His heart and command in Matthew 10:7–8: “As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
"I look forward to seeing how God will continue to use me in his ministry."
