Diocesan Evangelist Andy Williamson reflects on the course

Andy Williamson has been commissioned as a Diocesan Evangelist for Shankill Parish, Lurgan where he currently works as Outreach Pastor.

He was commissioned in Knocknagoney Parish Church on Thursday 11 June 2026 along with four others: Tom Field (Willowfield), Cyril Morrison (Knocknagoney), Gill Peek (Movilla Abbey Church) and Keith Porter (Braniel Community Church).

The heart of Andy's role is to find ways for the church to connect to the wider community and to see the wider community connecting with the church.

He reflects on the course below...

"When I became a Christian fourteen years ago the hopelessness and disconnection in my life was replaced by hope and connection to Jesus Christ. Since then, I’ve been enthusiastic about seeing others discover this same faith.

"In 2022 I started working as a Community Evangelist for Shankill Parish Church in Lurgan. Part of my training for this role was to complete the Evangelist Training Course.

"I can honestly say it was not only worthwhile but also enjoyable. The coursework encouraged me to push myself to keep learning, and the practical side encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone. I also met a great bunch of people who helped me along in completing the course.

"What I learned through the course has helped and will continue to help in my ongoing role as an evangelist to the Lurgan community."
