Andrew McCaw is commissioned for Pioneer Ministry

Huge congratulations to Andrew McCaw who was commissioned as a Pioneer Minister on Monday 10 November. Bishop David commissioned and licenced Andrew at The Gathering, Belfast, where he has been the Youth and Young Adults Worker since summer 2021.

Pioneer Ministry Director, Revd Rob Jones, also took part along with Archdeacon Mark Harvey, Pioneer Advocate for the diocese, Revd Mark Lennox, and The Gathering’s leader, Revd Ross Munro. It was an evening filled with hope and faith.

Revd Rory Blake-Knox, leader of Moneyreagh Community Church, spoke on Luke 10: 1-17, reminding us that the Lord of the Harvest is already at work in East Belfast including in the homes surrounding the church.

He finished with this charge:

“The Lord says ‘Go!’ Andrew go in faith, go in humility and go in joy. Go as one tonight who is sent ahead of Jesus to prepare the way for his coming. Go, knowing that he will meet you there, that he’s already been at work before you arrive. To the rest of us sitting here – support, pray, and when you can, go with these guys. Be the answer to the prayers we ask. And to this community, if you live here and call this place home, God has not forgotten you. The Lord of the Harvest is in fact walking these streets. And the good news of Jesus is this – that his Kingdom has come.”

Amen!

Andrew McCaw

Andrew is 26 and married to Megan. His role in The Gathering church plant has been to establish a youth ministry in inner East Belfast for young people aged 5-25 years old.

Looking ahead Andrew has sensed a particular calling:

“Over the next few years, I believe God has placed it on me to seek after students in the Titanic Quarter area, specifically A Level and college level students who wouldn’t necessarily come to church. The aim is to journey with them in a student-based community and introduce them to the person of Jesus.

“The Titanic Quarter area has a working population of 10,000 people, half of which are students who come to the college to study. This is a very secular space in Belfast where the name of Jesus needs to be proclaimed!

“How we do that for students is why I have joined the Pioneer Ministry Cohort for Church of Ireland, in partnership with Church Army.”

Please pray for Andrew in his current role and his Pioneer Ministry training.
