Ladies hear about life in Maridi

As Bishop Moses and Mama Rejoice continue their visit to Down and Dromore, last night it was Mama's turn to share about life and ministry in Maridi at a Ladies' Evening in Magherally.

Mama Rejoice helped us understand the hardships of life for women in South Sudan but also spoke of the faithfulness of God and the positive work of MU among women and families.

The current Maridi Family Centre has been a vital space for healing, learning, and empowerment. In a region deeply affected by war, trauma, and economic hardship, this centre has helped hundreds of women rebuild their lives, learn new skills, and regain their confidence.

We heard, however, that the centre is soon to be demolished to make way for a major road, with no compensation. So that the centre's work can continue, Down and Dromore will shortly launch an appeal to build a new Family Centre on land within the diocesan compound. More details to come.

Mama also told us something of her own family and her role as the Bishop's wife, including her project to breed goats to give to the pastors' wives. Pastors are unsalaried and a goat is a valuable source of income.

The evening finished with prayer and more chat. Thank you to Revd Karen Salmon and the ladies of Magherally for hosting us. The fellowship was precious!
