Growing young disciples - a vital part of our mission
Growing young disciples is a vital part of our mission in Down and Dromore, so we were thrilled that 55 of our older teens and leaders recently gathered for a discipleship weekend at the Kilbroney Centre.
The residential was aimed at young people who want to go deeper in their faith as disciples of Jesus, and so the programme had a strong emphasis on teaching, worship, and participation. The young people themselves helped to lead times of worship and prayer, while young adults who had come through previous weekends and camps took responsibility for areas such as catering, small groups, and activities.
Both Friday and Saturday evenings ended with a campfire and late-night worship, creating a special atmosphere of fellowship and reflection.
Looking ahead, the next diocesan event for young people will be a Christmas Worship Night on Saturday 13 December, followed by a youth weekend in Castlewellan from 20–22 February 2026.
Andrew Brannigan, who led the teaching at the weekend, reflected:
“This discipleship weekend has felt quite significant. There were many young people and young leaders there with a hunger to grow in their faith and draw closer to God. It is quite humbling to witness the depth of desire in a younger generation to develop as disciples and to see so many of them get involved in leadership. Please keep them in your prayers.”
