Braniel's new sensory space for young people

Braniel Community Church have created a new sensory/quiet space in their church, thanks to a grant from the Church of Ireland Orphans and Children Society.

The converted room in St Brigid’s Hall has helped the children and young people who, for a variety of reasons, need a calming environment when it’s busy around the building.

The space is adjacent to the Sunday School room and is used during services and on Wednesday evenings when both the Kids Club and Youth Club meet.

“We had noticed in our clubs and on Sundays that some of our kids just found the noise and crowds overwhelming at times and so the idea for a sensory/quiet space was born,” explains BCC leader, Revd James Crockett.

The project (above) was completed on 1 September and already it’s making a difference.

“We’ve noticed a positive change in the environment around church and, with a quiet place to go, the young people have become a lot better at regulating their behaviour.

“We’re so grateful to the Orphans and Children Society for their support and hope that everyone who uses the space will find peace and rest in the presence of Jesus!”
