Churches hear how we can partner with Maridi Diocese
Representatives from churches in the diocese gathered in the T3 Conference Centre on Wednesday 24 September to hear how we can partner with Maridi Diocese to improve opportunities in education and health.
In conversation with our partnership link coordinator, Dean Geoff Wilson, Bishop Moses shared how 51 years of conflict have adversely affected infrastructure, education and health in South Sudan, the newest country in the world. Successive wars have cost 3 million lives and displaced 4 million people leaving a very young population with many orphans, widows and refugees.
The Diocese of Down and Dromore does not directly run projects in Maridi but we have, since 1999, worked through CMS Ireland and latterly with Fields of Life. We were delighted to have Linda Abwa and Jenny Smyth (CMSI) and Ross McQueen and Tony Gaston (Fields of Life) join us and lead discussion groups.
At the end of the evening Bishop David said he hoped that 8 parishes in Down and Dromore would partner with 8 schools in Maridi and that 8 of our churches would partner with 8 parishes in Maridi Diocese.
