Vacancy for a Musician, Killyleagh
St John the Evangelist, Killyleagh Parish is looking to develop its music ministry and we invite you to apply for the part-time role of Musician.
Role description
Take responsibility for co-ordinating and playing music for worship services including:
Sunday Service music – using a lead instrument
Choosing and arranging hymns and songs in collaboration with the minister
Rehearsing choir and musicians (during the week or before the service)
Develop opportunities for musicians/singers young and old to play at services
Key festivals, such as Christmas, Easter, Harvest, Remembrance, and other celebrations like Carol services
Be available, though not required, to play for funerals and weddings - such services are paid for by the family
Person specification
The successful candidate should ideally be comfortable with the following:
Musical skills: competency on a lead instrument e.g. keyboard, guitar, or organ.
Choir/vocal experience.
Teaching skills: taking the lead through communication and listening skills, ability to develop teamwork and collaboration with volunteers.
Have a sense of vocation for worship, and agreement to the Church of Ireland’s doctrinal beliefs.
Be comfortable leading worship in traditional, contemporary and children’s settings.
Terms of engagement
The successful candidate can opt to receive a contract for services, but is responsible for their own tax and NI responsibilities, though the church will provide administrative assistance. Payment will be £25 per hour and paid monthly on receipt of a timesheet. It is anticipated the role will be 2-3 hours per week but can be reviewed in time.
The candidate may choose to play regularly or when available. As an institution of faith, the successful candidate must act in accordance with all aspects of the Church of Ireland conduct and ethics guidelines including all safeguarding legislation.
