All set for the Platinum Jubilee

Our parishes will be playing their part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations next week. There are plans for numerous tea parties, fun days, community street parties and exhibitions, not to mention services of worship when we will give thanks for Her Majesty’s 70 years of selfless service. Just a taste of what’s happening is listed below together with links to the parish Facebook pages. We hope you can enjoy what’s on offer near you!

St Brendan’s, Sydenham

A Street Party to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday 2 June from 1–4 pm. Free family day filled with food, entertainment, bouncy castles, crafts and lots more.

Christ Church, Ardkeen

A Platinum Jubilee Tea Party after the 10.30 am service on Sunday 5 June with giveaway copies of ‘Our Faithful Queen’.

Holywood Parish

Sunday 5 June at 11.00 am, A Service to Mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. This will be followed by a ‘Bring your Own Picnic’ on the lawn. At 7.00 pm, Songs of Praise on the lawn with Festival Brass. Other events will include the planting of a Platinum Jubilee tree in the church grounds, an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia, a Senior Citizens Lunch and an event for children.

Killinchy and Kilmood

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, a special beacon will be lit at St Mary’s Kilmood at 8.00 pm on 2 June 2022 and the Peace Bells will also ring out in jubilation. The family fun event starts at 7.30 pm with hot food and drinks on offer. This is a Commonwealth initiative with beacons being lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and British Overseas Territories and each of the capital cities of Commonwealth countries.
On Sunday 5 June Services of thanksgiving will take place in the parish, with a service at 10.00 am in St Mary’s Kilmood and a service at 11.30 am in Killinchy Parish Church. Following each of the services, there will be tea parties sponsored by Ards and North Down Borough Council. The parish will give away 200 copies of ‘The Queen Who Chose To Serve’ to the boys and girls of the local community. We are also giving away 200 copies of ‘Our Faithful Queen’ to adults who attend our church services during the celebrations.

Tullycarnet Church

As part of the Ardcarn Residents Association we’re helping to organise a Platinum Jubilee Community Celebration on Friday 3 June from 12–4 pm in the Ardcarn Green Area. There will be a fancy–dress theme (kings and queens) for kids, games, crafts, bouncy castles, food, face painting plus tea and coffee.  

St Mary’s Ballybeen

We’re having a Church Picnic to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee after the morning service (11.00 am) on Sunday 5 June. We are also partnering with other local Ballybeen churches (St Mary’s, Christ Church Presbyterian, Dundonald Methodist, Salvation Army) for 2 initiatives to mark the Jubilee: we are giving away a copy of Queen Elizabeth II: The Queen Who Chose to Serve (Good Book Company) to all pupils of Brooklands Primary School; we are holding a community Fun Day on Friday 3 June from 4–7 pm in Christ Church Presbyterian. 

Holy Trinity Ballylesson

On Sunday 5 June at 11.00 am, A Service of Celebration for the Platinum Jubilee followed by ‘The Big Lunch’, with music provided by Ballylesson Old Boys band. 

Magheralin

The morning services on Sunday 5 June (10.00 am in Dollingstown and 11.30 am in Magheralin) will be a Celebration of 70 years of Faith and Service. These will be followed by a Picnic in the rectory garden with hot dogs, ice cream and garden games.
We are also running 7 initiatives/giveaways to mark 7 decades of the Queen’s reign, including a Senior’s Afternoon Tea, Jubilee book giveaways, bus stop giveaways to post–primary students, and more…
On Saturday 18 June from 2–5 pm, a free Community Fun Day in Planter’s Park with face painting, bouncy castle, dance stage, ice–cream, games, afternoon teas, football, soft play area and hot dogs. All free of charge and all are welcome!

Magherally & Annaclone

Neighbours in the community and the Presbyterian and Roman Catholic Churches are invited to a Thanksgiving Service for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Sunday 5 June at 11.30 am in St John the Evangelist, Magherally. The service will be followed by a BBQ at the Rectory with fun for the kids – create your own crown, treasure hunt, ‘Beat the Goalie’ competition.

Willowfield

On Sunday 5 June 2022, a Fun Day in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Bring friends and family along to Willowfield Church Halls on the Woodstock Road from 1–3 pm for bouncy castles, face painting and a BBQ. The play park will be open and there will be fun crafts. 

St Dorothea’s, Gilnahirk

A Platinum Jubilee Tea Party after the 10.15 am service on Sunday 5 June with giveaway copies of ‘Our Faithful Queen’.

Shankill Parish, Lurgan

Jubilee Family Fun Day on Sunday 5 June from 2–4 pm in the Jethro Centre. BBQ, petting zoo, bouncy castles, face painting and more. All free! Also on Sunday 5 June in the Youth Suite at Jethro, a Jubilee Tea Party for Seniors from 2–4 pm (booking required).

Saintfield Parish

A celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Saturday 4 June from 10.30–2.30 pm. With 1950s and royal memorabilia, vintage cars, marriage and baptism registers, children’s crown competition, face painting and other activities, tea and coffee on the lawn and the church bell will ring 70 times at midday!

Killyleagh

St John’s will lead and host a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee for the whole Killyleagh community at 5.00 pm on Sunday 5 June. The preacher will be Revd Jonathan Boyd (Killyleagh Presbyterian) and joint choirs will sing the anthem specially composed for the weekend events. Sea Cadets are planting 7 trees in then church graveyard, one of which will be ceremonially planted by The Lord Lieutenant for Co Down, Gawn Rowan Hamilton. 50 children and young people in the parish will receive copies of the specially written ‘Do Great Things for God – Queen Elizabeth 2’ Children’s Book marking the Jubilee.

Christ Church Kilkeel

A Garden Party and Songs of Praise in the Rectory Garden on Sunday 5 June at 4.00 pm. Kilkeel Silver Band, Games, Royal Photo Booth, lots of food and much more!

St Clement’s, Templemore Avenue

To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee there will be an exhibition of memorabilia in the church which commemorate royal milestone events. Thursday 2 June 10am–10pm; Saturday 4 June 10–1pm; Sunday 5 June 2–4pm.
Friday 3 June at 7.30 pm a Music and Words Evening presenting ‘Rock of Edges’, the story, song and spirit of U2. And on Saturday 5 June from 10–1pm, a Royal Open Air Tea Party (free disposable BBQ kit for the first 40 attending).

Dromore Cathedral

To mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Dromore Cathedral will be holding special events on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June.
From 3.00pm on Saturday there will be a special all–age celebration service of worship in the Cathedral, followed by a garden party and fun day in the Rectory garden with bouncy castles, games, entertainment and face painting. Everyone is very welcome to come along and all are encouraged to dress for the occasion! Please bring your own picnic. Hot and cold drinks and ice–cream will be provided.
Our morning worship at 10.00am and 11.30am on Sunday 5 June will have a Platinum Jubilee theme. Those who were born in 1952 will be participating in the services and immediately following the 11.30am service, a commemorative tree will be planted in the Rectory front garden.

Rathfriland & Ballyward

A special united service in St John’s, Rathfriland at 11.00am on Sunday 5t June, attended by Mrs Catherine Haughian DL, Deputy Lieutenant of County Down, followed by a Tea Party in the Parish Hall, with music by Legananny Accordion Band, and a bouncy castle for the children. 

Seagoe

Jubilee Service at 10.30 am on Sunday 5 June – an informal service for all the family. Adults are encouraged to wear Jubilee colours if possible (purple) and children are encouraged to dress as Royalty!
At 11.45 am we will have a Jubilee tree planting ceremony beside the rear carpark in the church grounds followed at 12 noon by a Community Picnic and fun afternoon. Please bring your own picnic to join with others in celebrating the Jubilee. Other food items will also be available including a special Jubilee cake. There’ll be a range of activities including face–painting, balloon modelling, lawn games etc.
Join us for an informal Jubilee service in St. Patrick’s at 6.00pm followed by a light supper.
On Wednesday 8 June at 7.30pm, A late ‘Afternoon Tea’ and Royal Talk with Revd Derek Kerr. Derek is a well–known royal enthusiast and will share from his extensive knowledge. He will also display many items of royal memorabilia.
There will be an ongoing Royal Memorabilia Exhibition in the Parish Centre (open while other events are on).
You are warmly invited to any and all of the above events.

St Mark’s Dundela

A Jubilee Garden Party on Saturday 4 June in the grounds of St Mark’s Dundela, Holywood Road, Belfast. Please join us from 2–4pm for party food, games and a brass band fanfare. The event will conclude with a celebration concert in the church by Marion Jordan and Darren Day (admission by donation for the concert which will be from 4.30–5.30pm).

Knockbreda Parish

Knockbreda Parish welcome you to a Jubilee Tea Party and Family Fun Day on Friday 3 June from 2–5pm. There will be music from Comber Brass, games, crafts, party food, fancy dress for kids and much more.  

St Mark’s Newtownards

Join St Mark’s Newtownards for a Jubilee Afternoon Tea on Friday 3 June at 2.00pm.

Holy Trinity Glencraig

The parish celebrated on Sunday 29 May and on Sunday 26 June at 7.00pm there is a Jubilee Organ Recital from Revd Canon Dr Peter Thompson. Peter will play organ music and hymns associated with the Coronation and other Royal Events. 

St John’s, Moira

All welcome to a Platinum Jubilee Fun Morning on Saturday 4 June at St John’s Parish Centre from 11am–2pm. Bouncy castles, picnic and pudding (please bring your own picnic), dress up parade and crazy competitions!

Knocknagoney

As part of Knocknagoney Area Forum’s Jubilee celebrations, we are hosting a Tea Dance in the church hall for members of the congregation and the local community. Thursday 2 June from 2–4pm. Come along for fun, food, nostalgia and some old–time dancing!
Sunday 5 June from 12–2pm, come and join us for an amazing Fun Day, organised with Knocknagoney Area Forum, to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee! There will be inflatables, BBQ, face painting, a photo booth, ice cream van and more. This is a free event for all ages and for everyone in the community.
