Meet Luke McCallum, Diocesan Evangelist

I’m married to Alice and we are expecting our first child in October of this year. My home church is Willowfield and has been since 2015.

I joined the church as a Children’s Intern and at the time I had a belief that God existed but did not call myself a Christian. Within less than two weeks of starting the intern programme I really felt that God was speaking to me through other people’s prayers; it would often seem like during times of prayer that the Holy Spirit was so tangible to me, as if we were the only ones in the room. I realised that it was the fear of what my friends would think that had stopped me from giving my life to Jesus. I quickly realised that God was bigger than my fear, and so asked Jesus to come into my life and save me.

I realised then that leaning on God and looking for his will in my life was the only way I wanted to live. He guided me to the internship in Willowfield and he guided me in similar ways to the Evangelists’ Training Course. Through prayers and words of encouragement from others it was clear God had placed a gifting of evangelism in me and I knew that I had to do this training to allow me to reach people more effectively with the gospel.

The course is something that I would encourage anyone looking to broaden their knowledge of theology and ministry to do. It has taught me how to practically reach out into the community that I find myself in in the best way possible.

I will be continuing with ministry across two churches, Willowfield Parish Church and Moneyreagh Community Church. My hope and prayer is that God allows me to continue to work by his Holy Spirit and to see more and more people fall in love with their Heavenly Father.
