God at work in Killicomaine

Standing at the start of 2020 none of us could have imagined what lay ahead, but isn’t it amazing how God can turn adversity into good things? The Holy Spirit can work creatively in crisis and bring people to faith in Jesus despite our limitations.

The pandemic badly disrupted Killicomaine Community Church’s ‘normal’ outreach of CAP Job Club, Mens’ Club, Alpha Courses and Sunday evening gatherings, but within two weeks of the March ‘lockdown’ we had learnt how to use Zoom and had taken our Sunday evening online. We also added a midweek online gathering to maintain regular contact.

As we started to see restrictions ease, in the late spring, we were able to re–establish an outdoor Men’s Club and start a weekly ‘Pop–Up Church’ in the grounds of Killicomaine Youth Centre.

Freedom in Christ

During September we were very thankful to be able to take our Sunday evening gatherings back into the Community Centre and we started a Women’s Club in October. Also, in October, we launched two ‘Freedom in Christ’ courses; one face to face with a small number in the Youth Centre and the other on Zoom.

In particular the physical version of the course has been incredible as all participants have made a genuine and heartfelt decision to follow Jesus. These men have suffered from addictions for decades but now the Holy Spirit has set them free! There has been such a positive reaction to these salvations that the wife of one of the participants has also come to faith and we continue to see the Holy Spirit move by drawing others closer to God’s Kingdom through people observing the amazing changes in these guys’ lives.

We might have been in lockdown, but the Holy Spirit was very active!

Looking ahead into 2021, restrictions permitting, we will launch a CAP Life Skills Course in the Community Centre and plan to restart our CAP Job Club to be able to bring help to our community who are suffering from the COVID–19 pandemic.
