New Chaplain for Mission to Seafarers

Rev Colin Hall-Thompson
Rev Colin Hall-Thompson
Rev Colin Hall-Thompson, Rector of the Grouped Parishes of Ballymacarrett, has been appointed as the Mission to Seafarers Chaplain in Belfast.

The Mission has full-time chaplains and/or centres in more than 100 ports around the world, and is represented in some 200 others by honorary chaplains.

"I'm looking forward to new ministry," says Colin, whilst at the same time having withdrawal at the thought of leaving Ballymacarrett. It' s not a completely new ministry to me as I was a part time Mission to Seafarers Chaplain when I served in the Diocese of Cork for 5 years earlier in my Ministry.

Mission to Seafarers is an international ministry within the Anglican Communion. The chaplains and ship visitors offer help, support, advice and a friendly welcome or just someone to talk to when seafarers arrive in port. Their centres around the world offer a safe home from home, contact with home, new faces, a welcome break from the ship and a safe place to relax.

"In Belfast," continues Colin, "the Mission has Flying Angel (Rev. 14) Club premises with a Chapel, pub/dining room and TV lounge and so on. I hope many members of the Church of Ireland and organisations within northern parishes will visit the club, including stopping for refreshments and information. The ministry belongs to every member of the Church of Ireland and the whole Anglican community. "
