Movilla Abbey Church is a lively and friendly Christian community in the heart of east Newtownards, close to the ancient ruins of Movilla Abbey. We are a 'Covenant' Church Community - belonging equally to both the Church of Ireland and the Methodist Church in Ireland.
History
Movilla Abbey Church has been in existence since June 1980. It was a new church plant, envisioned and launched by the leadership and members of Regent Street Methodist Church, and St. Mark's Church of Ireland. For 41 years two separate congregations of Anglicans and Methodists shared the building. On 10 October 2021 the two congregations came together as one united worshipping, working and witnessing community.
Movilla Abbey Church is located on Movilla Road in East Newtownards, just past the ruins of ancient Movilla Abbey and Movilla Cemetery.
