Holy Week and Easter at Belfast Cathedral

St Anne’s Cathedral invites visitors to Belfast and those who work in the city to join the Cathedral community for any of the special services marking this year’s Holy Week and Easter.

On Palm Sunday, March 25, Palm Crosses will be distributed at 11.00 am and 3.30 pm, and the choir and clergy will follow in the footsteps of Jesus and his disciples with palm branches.

Through Holy Week, regular daily services at 8.10 am and 8.30 am will continue. From Monday to Wednesday there will be Choral Vespers at 5.30 pm.

On Maundy Thursday at 7.30 pm there is a special communion which commemorates the Last Supper, with foot washing and the stripping of all colour from the Cathedral.

On Good Friday, a Three–hour Devotional service will be from 12–3 pm. Centred on the seven words of Jesus from the Cross, this service will be led by the Dean, the Very Revd Stephen Forde. Later, the Good Friday Liturgy will be held at 7.30 pm.

On Easter Eve, the traditional Vigil service will start with lighting an Easter Fire on the Cathedral steps, followed by a dramatic service when the Cathedral is transformed from darkness into light

Easter Day services are at 8.00 am and 10.00 am, with the joy–filled Easter Choral Eucharist at 11.00 am. Later, Choral Evensong for Easter will be held at 3.30 pm. The Dean invites you to share in these Holy Week and Easter services.
