Meet Maithrie White–Dundas

On 3 September 2017, Maithrie White–Dundas was ordained deacon to serve in Ballyholme.

I was born and raised in Sri Lanka. My first conscious awareness of Christ was aged 11 and at Youth for Christ, I decided to follow Him. I served God in YFC, the Methodist Church, SCM, Bible Society and University Christian Fellowship.

The Part Time MTh at CITI was theologically and relationally invigorating: it deepened my understanding of God and gave me the gift of enduring, wonderful friendships with my colleagues. Over the years, Revd Paul Jack, my current rector, has been a good friend and support to my husband and me.

I am passionate about God’s Kingdom and making Christ known. I am convinced that we are called to bring our Biblical understanding to all aspects of life, work, study and culture. I am currently Chair of Transforming the Mind (the Annual Christian postgraduate Conference I founded in 2003) and serve on the Board of Trustees of Contemporary Christianity Northern Ireland.

I dreamed of being a Vet. Instead God led me to a degree in English, lecturing at University, and to a doctorate in Nottingham where I met Paul my husband and made the Anglican Communion my home. If someone had told me earlier that I would marry a Northern Irish man, live in Belfast and be ordained, I would have laughed. I really have been “surprised by God”.
