’Thank you’ for a year of 24–7 Prayer

Did you know that the year 2014 had 8,760 hours and that in the Diocese of Down and Dromore someone, somewhere was praying in every single one of them?

It was quite an undertaking, and it’s time to say a heartfelt ‘thankyou’ to all of our parishes and prayer coordinators who made it happen.

You attended prayer training events with Tash Creaney from 24–7 Prayer Ireland; you set up prayer rooms with creative prayer stations; you organised rotas and no doubt filled the gaps so that the prayer chain wasn’t broken; and you faithfully organised the handover of the prayer scroll from one parish to the next.

Your comments testified to the joy of time set aside to be in God’s presence. Here’s just a sample:

“I will be at a loss when 24/7 stops, it was a precious time.”

“An oasis of peace– I really met with God here.”

“These hours spent here have been so much more than refreshing that sleep. We need more times like this if we are to grow and mature.”

“To be part of the prayer chain is a huge privilege.”

We cannot underestimate the power of the Year of 24–7 Prayer and we must not leave it behind as we engage in mission. Let’s take to heart Tash Creaney’s encouragement to build upon that year and ‘move back and forth between the places of intimacy and involvement with a world desperate for an encounter with Jesus’.

Enjoy this 2 minute overview of those 8,760 hours!
