About Us
The Present
St. John’s Church at Dromara is a beautiful building inside and out, but that’s not what makes it special to so many of the congregation. What makes it special are the people themselves, who accept into their number people of different levels of faith knowing that God loves each and every one of us. Alongside this togetherness, there are opportunities to experience fellowship in Badminton, Bowls, Banner–making and many more activities. Why not come and explore for yourself. Come and see! You will be welcomed with Christian love. United with Dromara is Garvaghy Parish Church, a tiny church situated in the middle of the beautiful rolling Dromara hills. The church building may be small in size but the people of Garvaghy have big hearts full of love for the Lord Jesus and welcome newcomers with open arms. Garvaghy parishioners are very musically talented, they have even written and put into a drama the stories of Ruth and Moses and have had professional CDs made of the productions, including The Passion. There are now just over fifty families linked to the Garvaghy church and through their faithfulness, God’s work continues to flourish in this rural County Down parish. Come and join us, you won’t be disappointed.
The Future
We hope to: – make Dromara & Garvaghy centres of Christian worship for people of all ages, young and old. – ensure that it will be a warm and welcoming place for all people, those of faith and those whose faith needs nurturing and strengthening – deepen the spiritual life of the parish through prayer cells, Bible study groups and inter–church fellowship – increase the number of families worshipping with us – encourage a greater adult commitment to leadership in youth work. Our vision is that Dromara & Garvaghy will be places where all who come to us will feel warmth, love, and safety that would reflect the compassion and mercy of our Saviour.
