Worship
Here is just one definition, offered by Bishop William Temple:
"To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God."
Liturgy
- The Church of Ireland is a liturgical church, although you will find other less formal expressions of worship throughout the diocese. One meaning of liturgy is ‘the work of worship’.
- Our services follow an accepted liturgical form and structure.
- We have one prayer book - The Book of Common Prayer (2004) - plus other services authorised for use by the General Synod.
- We keep a balance in doctrine and worship between Word and Sacrament.
- The Holy Communion or the Eucharist is our central act of worship

Informal worship
Even informal worship has its form, but this more relaxed setting often encourages people to be more expressive. As a diocese we celebrate the old and the new and embrace the fresh expressions of worship found in our parishes.
