Welcome!
Welcome to the Down & Dromore website. We are one of the 2 biggest dioceses of the Church of Ireland and our parishes are to be found in County Down and part of County Armagh in Northern Ireland.
The diocese is divided up into 77 parishes with 111 churches and serves 64,500 people. We have more than 100 serving ordained clergy, full and part-time, and many active lay leaders. Find more about our parishes here.
Since 1997 we have been led by our Bishop, The Right Reverend Harold Miller and as a united diocese we have 2 cathedrals: Down Cathedral and Dromore Cathedral. The diocese also shares Belfast Cathedral with the Diocese of Connor.
Our administrative centre is in Church House in Belfast, beside the Cathedral.
The grave of St Patrick is to be found at Down Cathedral and Saul Church, just outside Downpatrick, was the first church in Ireland. As a diocese we continually draw inspiration from this missional heritage.
We are also enriched by our links with 3 other dioceses on 3 different continents: Albany, USA, Maridi, Sudan and Northern Argentina. Find out more about these links here.
We have an active Youth and Children's Council and the Bishop has a small staff team. You will find our contact details here.
(Please note that if you are tracing relatives via baptismal, marriage or burial records you should directly contact the relevant parish as this is where the information is held).
