Raymond Kettyle reflects on his deacon year

On 28 August Raymond will be ordained presbyter for the curacy of Cregagh.

I come from a rural family with five brothers, so as you can imagine, I grew up in a quiet house! My interests are primarily in sports and following the mighty LFC.

My deacon year in the Boyle and Riverstown group of parishes offered me a variety of experiences. Primarily, though, the core learning point was that basic human need is the same everywhere. Whatever the generation, location, or status of people – we all suffer from the brokenness of the human condition in our lives that separates us from friends, family, and God. This brokenness can only be healed through God’s reconciling love.

Therefore, my passion is to explore ways for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with God and grow deeper in their relationship with Him. This has involved a combination of being pastorally active and creative in offering opportunities for people.

Overall, I look forward to working with and learning from Jono Pierce and the rest of the team in St. Finnian’s. I also endeavour to contribute to the good work God is already doing in building His kingdom there. “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
