Peter Munce reflects on his deacon year

On 28 August Peter will be ordained presbyter for the curacy of Moira.

My name is Peter Munce and I am 34. In September my family and I are moving from Antrim to Moira where I will take up the post of curate–assistant in St John’s Parish.

I am married to Celia and have three beautiful children aged 6, 3 and 2 months who keep us busy! I love spending time with family, going for walks and watching a family movie on the sofa. I also enjoy reading, a Chinese take–away and am getting back into playing the great but frustrating game of golf.

For the past year I have served as a Deacon in the United Parish of Ballymoney, Finvoy and Rasharkin and have been truly blessed by the experience. I have learnt so much in Ballymoney about the realities of pastoral ministry, church leadership and mission through the work of their compassion ministry in CAP reaching out to those in need and by the desire for greater local cooperation between various denominations to advance the Kingdom of God.

As a new chapter in my walk with the Lord begins in Moira I am both nervous and excited! Nervous about a new place with new people but excited by all that the Lord is doing in St John’s. My own vision for ministry is very simple and can be summed up in these words: ‘to know Christ and make Him known’ and I am blessed to have the opportunity to serve in a church which is committed to the same thing. As my family and I move we trust in the Lord’s command found in the book of Johsua 1:9: ‘Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go’.
