For your prayers: an update from Maridi, South Sudan

Please continue to pray for South Sudan where the political situation remains extremely tense and the spectre of renewed civil war looms large.

A recent email from our brothers and sisters in Maridi Diocese captures the hardships they are facing. We continue to remember them:

Many thanks for your concern for us all and the whole of South Sudan. Everyone is concerned about the situation yes. The biggest issue here is that people are terrified and are not sure about what the future holds. It is a huge puzzle to solve. Knowing the mind of God and his intention for this country and why this mess with all the leaders is another issue to battle with. I know the Bible talks about troubles being with people and wherever people live there will be disagreement.

There is still some relative calm in Maridi. People are busy in their farms and there is much rain this year which is part of God’s blessings for people. There has been some severe hunger in Maridi this year but now people have started harvesting maize and groundnuts and at the same time preparing for the next season.

Dear friends, people are suffering and tired of wars. With the highest inflation now in the country life has become very very difficult. A packet of half a kilogram of salt which used to be for 2 SSP today is ranging between 15 to 20 SSP and a bar of washing soap from 5 SSP to between 60 and 75. Nevertheless we Trust in a God who is all knowing and has all the powers. A God who is a conqueror. I believe that God will takeover in due time as we wait for his saving hand.

My God’s mighty hands be upon you as you pray for us.
