Dr Clare Amos of the World Council of Churches will be the guest preacher at the 11.00 am service in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, on Sunday November 29.

Dr Amos is on a visit to Ireland and on Monday November 30 will attend a lunch and meeting hosted by the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, who is a member of the World Council of Churches.

An Anglican laywoman, Clare is based in Geneva, Switzerland, where her brief with the World Council of Churches is responsibility for interreligious dialogue and cooperation.

Clare is a biblical scholar, and lived in the Middle East for 10 years. She has taught Old Testament and New Testament studies in a variety of locations including Jerusalem, Beirut, Cambridge, London and Kent. She has published a commentary on the Book of Genesis. Prior to joining the staff of the World Council of Churches in 2011, Clare worked for the Anglican Communion Office as Director of Theological Education. In that capacity she was involved with the Church of Ireland in developing the Church’s current syllabus for ministerial training. Clare is married to Canon Alan Amos, an Anglican priest.
