South Sudan a step closer to peace

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir yesterday signed a peace deal with rebels after a threat of sanctions from the UN.

Rebel leader Riek Machar signed the deal last week but Mr Kiir refused.

The agreement is meant to end months of brutal civil war and will see Mr Machar return as vice–president.

Bishop Justin from our link diocese of Maridi wrote to Bishop Harold saying:

“The final compromise peace agreement was signed today in Juba by the Government of South Sudan.

“Our prayer need is now for this document to be accepted and practically implemented by all parties.

Thank you for your prayers.”
