Mount Merrion reaches out with Love for Life
Love for Life, Northern Ireland’s most established provider of Relationships and Sex Education have been working across the province delivering interactive and engaging sessions for young people and parents.
Mount Merrion Parish recently hosted a special series of parenting workshops facilitated by Love for Life. Adrian Green said, “In this year of focused mission, we want to reach out to our community and show that we care. Love for Life drew alongside us and delivered two excellent evening workshops on internet safety and another on young people, relationships and sex. We offered a free evening meal to start the evening and invited our entire community. I was so encouraged to see people who rarely engage with us coming along to these events.”
Graham Hare (pictured right), General Manager of Love for Life, said, “Our young people are faced with increasing pressure in our sexualised culture. The challenge for parents and youth workers to communicate with young people about relationships and sex has never been greater, but many feel embarrassed, ill–equipped or scared.” Working in partnership with local churches and community groups, Love for Life is committed to creating a culture where young people can have a healthy respect for themselves, relationships and sex.
“Love for Life believes that churches have a key role to play in balancing the voice and impact of the media on our young people,” continued Graham. “Imagine that my daughter is being pulled in one direction by the influence of the media, the magazine articles, TV shows and music. Imagine that she believed everything her friends told her about relationships and sex. Now imagine that I was equipped to talk to her in relevant ways with confidence, imagine that each local church was willing to engage with the issues and talk about them, imagine what a difference that might make“.
