Hunger for God in The Glen

“It has truly been a blessing and privilege to serve God as the leader of the newest church plant in the Glen Area of Newtownards,” writes Stephen Doherty. “We have yet to reach our “half birthday” and even within that brief time, there has been a significant shift in attitude towards God and his ministry. People have been much more open to the church and Jesus than we expected. They want to know more about the Bible and they have come to us!

“Sunday mornings in Londonderry Primary School attract a core attendance of between 40 and 50 which includes folk of all ages; some them have never been to church, some have not been in a while and some have changed from another denomination for one reason or another.

“The Glen Community Church has been blessed by some of the local people taking ownership of the church family. They have become fully engaged with the practical issues relating to a church and they are taking part in our midweek discipleship and fellowship groups. The midweek programme has come alive with a breakfast club for parents, a men’s group, a children’s Bible club and two small Bible study groups. One is in the Glen Community Centre and the other is in the Community House.

“The biggest transformation that people have noticed has been the change in individual lives. Recently we invited one of our new members at the Glen to share her story of reconnecting with church and faith at an evening service in St Mark’s. God is on the move and we’re looking forward to our Holy Week mission.”
