Vacancy for Key Stage 1 teacher for Primary 2, based in Uganda

An individual is sought for the role of Primary School Teacher for a 3rd culture child in a rural African Hospital setting. His parents (CMS Ireland Mission Partners) are working in Kiwoko hospital as Medical Director and Nursing School Tutor. This past year their son has been home schooled by a qualified early years teacher for P1, and he is now entering P2.

Person sought

  • An active individual who enjoys outdoor and indoor activities
  • Able to work respectfully in another culture and a teachable spirit
  • Resourceful, creative and imaginative given the limitations of the rural setting
  • Adaptable
  • Love for children, patient, cheerful, servant hearted
  • Person of integrity
  • Able to work with minimal day–to–day supervision, yet living in a team community
  • An individual with an ongoing relationship with God, keen to use their gifts in a rural African setting
  • Experience of working with children essential, and be qualified to teach the Northern Ireland Primary Curriculum – the applicant must also be a registered teacher with GTCNI or UK equivalent
  • Musical gifting would be preferable, but not essential

Leave
Public holidays
Additional leave will be in discussion with the family.

Duration
Ideally commencing late May 2015 and finishing April 2016.
Aware that starting May 2015 may not be possible for all potential applicants, the start date may be delayed until July or August 2015 to suit the most suitable candidate.

Additional Ministry Opportunities
In addition to teaching, (with preparation time factored in), there will be opportunity to be involved in a wide range of activities/ministries within the hospital and wider community. These would depend very much on the individual’s skills and interests, but could include children’s ministry, mission team outreaches, worship team, students’ Bible Studies, sport, hospital administration, basic computer classes for Kiwoko Hospital laboratory students.

Accommodation
A room will be provided in a shared house with other short term volunteers (usually doctors.) Utility costs will be included within this.

Allowance
CMS Ireland will provide the cost of a return airfare to the UK, travel/medical insurance, along with a small monthly allowance to cover food, local travel and pocket money.

You will be required to fill in an application form (references will be required) and attend a short interview.

The closing date for applications will be Friday 27 March 2015. With interviews taking place the week beginning the 6 April 2015. (This can be extended for the right candidate).
