Columbanus – 1400 years of monastic and missionary heritage

Clergy from the Clandeboye Area Deanery are pictured ahead of the Columbanus 1400 festival which launches this weekend in Bangor. A series of events will recognise the life and European legacy of Ireland’s most celebrated missionary.

On Friday evening, Bangor Abbey hosts, “Journey of a Single Day”, a concert starring The Farriers, The McGinn Sisters, David McCann, David Lennon, Marianne McShane, Ards cce & The Smyth Sisters. On Sunday evening there will be a civic service in Bangor Presbyterian Church.

Rector of Bangor Abbey, Canon Ronnie Nesbitt and Canon Simon Doogan, rector of St Columbanus, Ballyholme, last month accompanied a group from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Down and Connor who visited Rome to mark the beginning of the anniversary year. Read more here.
