Sing ‘Silent Night’ for Syria

On Christmas Day 1914, fighting ceased in the trenches of World War I and soldiers from both sides sang the well–known carol, Silent Night, across No Man’s Land. Some soldiers from the British and German armies even joined together to play football.

100 years Tearfund are inviting you to hold a Silent Night Carol event in your church, to remember the remarkable Christmas of 1914. We’ve developed free resources to help which include special messages from Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, President of the Football Association and Justin Welby, The Archbishop of Canterbury.

Sports stadia and other venues around the UK are preparing their Silent Night Carol events with the support of HOPE, Tearfund and Sports Chaplaincy UK so why not join with us this Christmas; engage your local community with the local church and play a part in helping those places in the world where we still need peace today.

As part of running a Silent Night Carol event we would love for offerings to be taken to help those affected by conflict and disasters.

Aid agency Tearfund are following Jesus to places of greatest need, providing basic essentials like shelter, food and water, as well as trauma care to help people cope with the atrocities they have seen.

In places like Syria where the overall death toll is believed to be more than 170,000, with an estimated 11,000 of them children, Tearfund partners in Lebanon and Jordan are responding to the needs of families who have fled there and those we can reach within Syria itself who have found themselves without an income or any idea of when the fighting will end.

By holding a collection at your Silent Night Carol event, your generosity will provide essentials such as food, shelter, warmth and support, to thousands of families across the world, devastated by conflict and disasters.
