Willowfield youths pedalling Ireland to break the cycle

A team of 5 cyclists from Willowfield Parish Community Association in inner East Belfast is currently pedalling all the way from the most southerly part of Ireland, Mizen head, to its most northerly point, Malin Head.

The team is being led by the community association’s Assistant Youth Worker, Dougie (Stuart Douglas) and includes four young men from the Willowfield area of inner East Belfast – Mark Bishop, Matthew Jones, Richard Bishop and Jason Jones.

The cyclists came up with the idea of riding the whole length of Ireland to raise money to invest in projects for young people in their area. It’s their hope that this cycle will help to break the negative cycle of young men’s lives in East Belfast and encourage a younger generation to expand their horizons and dream their own dreams.

The journey will take 5 days and covers 400 miles.  They have already completed their first two days of cycling completing over 160 miles making their way from Mizen Head to Killarney and onto Limerick. They plan to complete the journey on Thursday 4th September as they travel from Enniskillen to Malin Head.
