First things first at opening night of Bible Week

Andrew Brannigan taught on the ‘oneness’ of God to an overflowing Willowfield church on the first night of the Bishop’s Bible Week. He is one of a new generation of leaders teaching us on the theme ‘A Dangerous Faith’. We’re looking at the biblical context, impact and dangerous meaning of the great commandments in our key text for the week, Mark 12: 28–34.

Jesus uses the words, ‘the Lord our God, the Lord is one,’ ahead of the greatest commandment, to love God with everything, and so Andrew explored God’s singularity, integrity, identity and priority. Delving into Deuteronomy 6:1–12, he challenged us to hold fast to this vital truth and to let it impact us personally and in mission. This is the foundation for the teachings to follow. Please don’t miss out on the coming evenings!

Monday 1 September also happened to be Andrew’s first day in post as Development Officer for the diocese, a new role that will allow him to more fully pursue some of the initiatives he has begun in recent years. One such initiative is ‘Foundations’, a programme to nurture and develop our 20s and 30s, which was our featured diocesan ministry last night.

Archdeacon David McClay also took the opportunity to introduce us to our new Youth Development Officer, Tim Burns, also on his first day in post. More about Tim later in the week.

Church planting

Bishop Harold launched the Down and Dromore Church Planting Fund at last year’s Bible Week and we continue to have church planting focus this year. Last night, via a short film which you can view below, we heard from Stephen Doherty and the brand new Glen Community Church in Newtownards. On Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll be featuring and praying for Moneyreagh and The Braniel.

Please give

Whilst there will be an opportunity to fill in a standing order form each night, Thursday evening will be the particular focus for giving to the Down and Dromore Church Planting Fund.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back this evening, not just for teaching but for worship led by the Willowfield and Mount Merrion worship teams .
