Conference:'Changing Church in a Fragile World,' with Phil Potter
Saturday 06 November 2010

Canon phil potterPioneering minister, Canon Phil Potter, will be the keynote speaker at a morning conference on Saturday 6th November entitled, "Changing Church..in a fragile world." Phil is Director of Pioneer Ministries for the Diocese of Liverpool and author of two books.

The conference is organised for the churches of the diocese by the Down and Dromore Mission Council and will be held in the Jethro Centre, Lurgan.

“Pioneer ministry is basically creating and planting new forms of church,” explains Phil. "These new expressions of church can take place in pubs, cafes, offices - wherever groups of people meet. They operate alongside the regular churches to create what the Archbishop of Canterbury calls the mixed economy church."

Canon Potter’s job is to create these new forms of church and also to help the regular churches get started doing it. He works with a team of 12 clergy who have received special training in this field. It’s the largest team of its kind in the Church of England.

In addition to starting new forms of church and supervising them, he’s working on a strategy for his diocese “to link people together so it’s a virus that’s infecting our whole diocese,” he says.

Canon Potter's  books are entitled – The Challenge of Cell Church and The Challenge of Change – Shaping Change and Changing the Shape of Church.

A letter will shortly go out to parishes advising them how to register for the conference.
