A bit about us:

There is a tradition that there has been Christian worship in or around Hillsborough since 600 AD. Worship on the site of the present church building dates back to 1636. The present church building was completed in 1772. The Church known as St. Malachy's takes its name from a reforming leader of the 12th century church. The parish has a churchyard with plots dating back to the 1700s and some of the rarest species of wildflowers in the countryside can be seen there.

The visitor will note the massive tower, housing a ring of eight bells, cast by Rudhall of Gloucester in 1772, and an electrically operated carillon. The graceful spire rises to a height of 210 feet from the ground, and, when floodlit, it can be seen from miles around. On the face of the tower two date stones with the Hill and Downshire arms, mark the episodes in the building's story. There are 20 bellringers at Hillsborough Parish Church, led by Tower Captain - Simon Walker, they meet each Wednesday evening for practice and great fun - see their website at www.hillsboroughbells.co.uk.

The Snetzler organ in the west gallery dates from 1773 and the GP England chamber organ in the choir from 1923. The church has been little altered - high box pews have been retained, as has the pulpit, complete with sounding board. St Malachi's is one of the finest examples of 18th century church architecture extant in Ireland.

At Hillsborough Parish Church, people of all ages, some of whom have worshipped here for years, and some of whom have only recently joined, gather to worship God, to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ proclaimed, and to encourage each other to live to the glory of God every day of the week.

Whatever your reason for looking at this webpage, the people of God here in Hillsborough will welcome you, and might just be your companions as you explore the new life that God promises. We are already a family of all ages, from all backgrounds, with different reasons for being part of the Church but God is transforming us all, day by day.

We worship together on Sundays at 8.30am, 10.30am and 6.30pm; for all other information, please phone the office or the rector.
