Schools and faith to be addressed in lunchtime lecture
17 Jan 2012
Schools and Faith, subtitled, ‘How Christian is Religious Education?’ is the subject of the next lunchtime lecture to be given at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Stranmillis Road, Belfast. The lecture will be given by David Armstrong, Senior Lecturer in Education at Stranmillis University College.
Mr Armstrong will speak against the background of far–reaching changes in school curricula which have taken place in recent years, the subject of Religious Education not being exempt. Some concern has been expressed that the particular status of the Christian faith has been eroded, with comparative religion coming to the fore in its place.
David Armstrong has been on the staff of Stranmillis University College since 2002. His previous positions include Head of Religious Studies for Controlled Grammar Schools in Northern Ireland and Head of Religious Studies of an International School in South India.
Everyone is welcome at 1.10pm on Tuesday January 17. There will be time for questions and light refreshments will be available.
